Solar Boat Team - CRM Customer Case StudyThe Delft University of Technology, TU Delft Solar Boat Team, based in the Netherlands, designs and builds hydrofoil boats that are driven entirely by solar energy. Every two years, the team builds a new boat which participates in the biennial Dutch Solar Challenge, the World Cup in solar boat racing. This process involves a lot of contact with sponsors that aid The TU Delft Solar Boat Team with knowledge and facilities, therefore the need for a CRM system that could help the team manage these relations was realised.

The system acts as a central deposit for the data which means the information is never lost; it is incredibly straightforward and everyone can use it with ease.

Managing Sponsors

Tijmen Bregt, Team Manager of the TU Delft Solar Boat Team explains, “Previously we managed all of this data within an Excel spreadsheet, however this soon became onerous, time-consuming and incredibly difficult to keep up to date. Our sponsor base is quite big so we wanted something that could efficiently manage the data we had and be simple enough for everyone on the team to understand, which is just what Really Simple Systems offered.”

“Another driver for us, was that our team changes every year, as we get a new intake of students. So it was important for us to have a system that would allow the data to be accessed by the new teams as and when they changed,” Bregt continues. “The system acts as a central deposit for the data which means the information is never lost; it is incredibly straightforward and everyone can use it with ease.”

Managing Team Tasks

In addition to the main functionality of the CRM system, Bregt and his team also use the task list module within the system. The team consists of about 30 members and therefore keeping track of everyone’s workload can prove difficult. However, the task list within the Really Simple Systems system allows each member to be allocated jobs and feedback when they have been completed.  “With so many members of the team using the CRM system, the task list feature is very useful for us as we can see what tasks have been completed by other members on the team. We can also share lists with other companies that we are working with which is very beneficial.”

Bregt concludes, “The service from Really Simple Systems has been great. They have answered any queries we have had very efficiently and ultimately the system makes our relations a lot easier to manage.”
